Introduction To Terms

These terms and conditions are subject to change without notice from time to time at our sole discretion. We will post changes and amendments to these terms and conditions to this website.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Australian students participating in Nationally Recognised Training in Australia will need to have a Unique Student Identifier, or USI, upon enroling in either the CUA40720 Certificate IV in Design or our Design@Work course. Australian students are required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) in order to progress through their course, students will be alerted of their required USI with a popup that will appear whenever they sign into The Schoolyard. This popup will guide them through the USI application process. Should students require assistance in understanding and applying for their USI, they will be prompted to contact support@thegraphicdesignschool.com.

The USI is a form of file-number that will link students to their training records, which are held in the National Training Collection, under the purview of the Australian Federal Government. Students will be able to access their records online, download them and share them with future training organisations digitally.

Payment Structure

Course Fees

The CUA40720 Certificate IV in Design costs a full payment of CERTIV.1.PRICE.TOTAL with a fees structure described below.

  • Initial Course Fees. The initial fee is CERTIV.1.PRICE.VALUE which is deducted on the day of enrolment. This initial course fee covers all costs for the first 6 months of tuition.

  • Second and Third Instalments. The second instalment of CERTIV.1.PRICE.VALUE is direct debited from the credit card you enrolled with 6 months to the day, after enrolment. The third instalment of CERTIV.1.PRICE.VALUE is direct debited a further 6 months from then (12 months after enrolment).

  • Course Completion Fees. The remaining CERTIV.1.PRICE.COMPLETION course fee is direct debited upon course completion and prior to issuance of your certificate.

CUA40720 Certificate IV In Design Upgrade Course Fees

The online CUA40720 Certificate IV in Design Upgrade Course is available to students of the Intensive Foundations Course, it costs a full price one off payment of CERTUP.11.PRICE.VALUE

Students may also opt to pay for the course via a part payment method. CERTUP.12.PRICE.VALUE upfront fee followed by a CERTUP.12.PRICE.VALUE fee the following month or upon course completion, whichever comes first. This comes to a total cost of CERTUP.12.PRICE.TOTAL

The above part payment schedule includes a small fee of FEES.ADMIN.VALUE for school administration and bank charges.

As the course is self paced the above stated fees are for a maximum course duration of 3 months. For more specific details regarding the part payment direct debit arrangements, students must read and agree to our Terms and Conditions before enrolling under the part payment plan on the enrolment page of the website.

Disability Supplementary Information Notice For Enrolment

The purpose of the Disability supplement is to provide additional information to assist you with answering the disability question on the Enrolment Form.

Disability in the contexts provided below does not include short-term disabling health conditions such as a fractured leg, influenza, or corrected physical conditions such as impaired vision managed by wearing glasses or lenses.

  • Hearing/deaf - Hearing impairment is used to refer to a person who has an acquired mild, moderate, severe or profound hearing loss after learning to speak, communicates orally and maximises residual hearing with the assistance of amplification. A person who is deaf has a severe or profound hearing loss from, at, or near birth and mainly relies upon vision to communicate, whether through lip reading, gestures, cued speech, finger spelling and/or sign language.
  • Physical - A physical disability affects the mobility or dexterity of a person and may include a total or partial loss of a part of the body. A physical disability may have existed since birth or may be the result of an accident, illness, or injury suffered later in life; for example, amputation, arthritis, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, paraplegia, quadriplegia or post-polio syndrome.
  • Intellectual In general, the term ‘intellectual disability’ is used to refer to low general intellectual functioning and difficulties in adaptive behaviour, both of which conditions were manifested before the person reached the age of 18. It may result from infection before or after birth, trauma during birth, or illness.
  • Learning - A general term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders manifested by significant difficulties in the acquisition and use of listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or mathematical abilities. These disorders are intrinsic to the individual, presumed to be due to central nervous system dysfunction, and may occur across the life span. Problems in self-regulatory behaviours, social perception, and social interaction may exist with learning disabilities but do not by themselves constitute a learning disability.
  • Mental illness - Mental illness refers to a cluster of psychological and physiological symptoms that cause a person suffering or distress and which represent a departure from a person’s usual pattern and level of functioning.
  • Acquired brain impairment - Acquired brain impairment is injury to the brain that results in deterioration in cognitive, physical, emotional or independent functioning. Acquired brain impairment can occur as a result of trauma, hypoxia, infection, tumour, accidents, violence, substance abuse, degenerative neurological diseases or stroke. These impairments may be either temporary or permanent and cause partial or total disability or psycho-social maladjustment.
  • Vision - This covers a partial loss of sight causing difficulties in seeing, up to and including blindness. This may be present from birth or acquired as a result of disease, illness or injury.
  • Medical condition - Medical condition is a temporary or permanent condition that may be hereditary, genetically acquired or of unknown origin. The condition may not be obvious or readily identifiable, yet may be mildly or severely debilitating and result in fluctuating levels of wellness and sickness, and/or periods of hospitalisation; for example, HIV/AIDS, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, Crohn’s disease, cystic fibrosis, asthma or diabetes.
  • Other - A disability, impairment or long-term condition which is not suitably described by one or several disability types in combination. Autism spectrum disorders are reported under this category.

After Enrolment

Your Rights

If you want to make changes to your direct debit arrangements, please contact us in writing via email at least 10 business days before the due date of the next debit transaction. These changes may include terminating your Direct Debit Agreement by paying in full the balance of your direct debit agreement, altering the monthly payment schedule. Certain changes may be affected at the sole discretion of The Graphic Design School.

Where you consider that a direct debit has been transacted incorrectly (outside the Direct Debit Agreement arrangements) please contact us immediately via email accounts@thegraphicdesignschool.com. We will respond to your query within 10 business days and do our utmost to help resolve the issue.

If you do not receive a satisfactory response from us to your dispute, contact your financial institution.

Your Commitment To Us

It is your responsibility:

  • To ensure that sufficient funds are available in your account to meet the requirements of our agreement on each due date.
  • To ensure that the authorisation given by you to draw on your nominated account is identical to the account signing instructions held by the Financial Institution where your account is based.
  • To advise us if the account nominated by you under the Direct Debit Agreement is transferred or closed.
  • To contact us and arrange a suitable alternative payment method if the Direct Debit Agreement is cancelled either by you or by the Financial Institution where your nominated account is based.
  • If your payment is dishonoured or declined for any reason and you have not given 10 days notice to the school, you will be required to pay an administration fee of FEES.ADMIN.PRICE.VALUE to The Graphic Design School.
  • Please note we cannot accept any bank charges levied by your Financial Institution for rejected transactions in your nominated account. For any queries or concerns regarding this arrangement or The Graphic Design School Pty Ltd Direct Debit Agreement, please contact our accounts team via email accounts@thegraphicdesignschool.com.
  • If a direct debit item is returned unpaid by your nominated Financial Institution due to insufficient funds, we will attempt to reprocess the funds owing, on any following day at our discretion. In the circumstance of a declined payment you will be automatically charged a FEES.ADMIN.PRICE.VALUE admin fee. The school will notify you of a declined transaction and/or successful reprocessing via email.
  • Failure to correctly notify us as to how and when you plan to rectify the reason that your account was declined will result in a suspension of your Schoolyard account until all fees owed are paid. Failure to rectify the reason that your account was declined in a timely manner will result in a suspension of your Schoolyard account until all fees owed are paid.
  • When using the Direct Debit facility with a credit card that has an expiration date, before the end of your next due direct debit payment you must contact The Graphic Design School within 30 days of the credit card expiration date to notify The Graphic Design School of the new card details. Failure to do so may result an administration fee of FEES.ADMIN.PRICE.VALUE.
  • We reserve the right to cancel The Graphic Design School Pty Ltd Direct Debit agreement with you if more than two or more direct debits are returned unpaid by your nominated Financial Institution and you fail to rectify the issues of payment. Our Accounts Team will contact you to arrange an alternative payment method. In the event that you are not able to meet the Direct Debit agreement. We reserve the right to cancel you as a student from the course, along with the Certificate of Completion that may be due or issued without refund of fees already paid.
What If An RTO Closes or Discontinues a Course

If an RTO closes down or cancels or otherwise discontinues a course you are enrolled in you are obliged to pay fees for the part of the course you have participated in. If you have paid fees in excess of this you would be entitled to a refund of the difference.

The RTO records must be handed to ASQA and your USI records should be updated.

Student Support

The Graphic Design School has an online Forum that can be accessed through the Schoolyard. This forum is manned by the School’s tutors and Student Support Team (the Support Angels). You will find many questions by current and past students that can help you answer a query, or you can post a question to one of the tutors yourself. You can also give us a call at our head office if you are having any difficulties.

English Language, Literacy And Numeracy Skills

Language, literacy and numeracy skills are critical to almost all areas of work. This is particularly true in graphic design where there is a need to communicate with clients, read and understand design briefs and do research. Our course is delivered in English, so it is assumed that every student will have good English, reading, comprehension, speaking, listening and writing. If you can read and understand the TGDS website and the Student Handbook, that is the level of English needed for this course. You will be asked upon enrolment the level of these skills you possess.

The Graphic Design School will support students during their study with training and assessment materials that are easily understood and suitable to the level of the workplace skills being delivered. We will also provide tutors throughout the course who can answer questions and help through the Schoolyard Support Forum.

We have never had one abusive or rude comment made by a student or staff on the forum, we are very proud of this and find it a rare thing in a forum situation. We are however aware that cyber bullying does exist on the World Wide Web. Discrimination and harassment will not be tolerated under any circumstances by the school. Your Consumer Rights

Australian Consumer Law guarantees your rights when you buy goods and services.

In fact, most products and services purchased after 1 January 2011 come with an automatic consumer guarantee that the product or service you purchased will work and do what you asked for. This includes education and training services.

Acceptable Quality

When you engage a business to provide a service, you have the right to expect ‘acceptable quality’.
Services must be:

  • Provided with due care or skill (taking all necessary steps to avoid loss and damage).
  • Fit for any specified purpose (express or implied).
  • Provided in a reasonable time (when no time is set).

What is ‘reasonable’ will depend on the nature of the service, the difficulty of the task and other relevant factors like busy periods and public holidays etc.

Upon Enrolment

You will have access to modules 1 and 2. Thereafter students will have access to modules once they have uploaded their previous assessment to their tutor. Your tutor can take an average of 14 days to grade an assessment. Students may not upload the next assessment until they have received the previous grade from their tutor.

Upon Enrolment In The Upgrade To CUA40720 Certificate IV In Design

You will have access to all learning materials. Your tutor can take an average of 14 days to grade an assessment.

Course Incompletion

Students who do not complete the course within the allotted enrolment period for their course will be entitled to purchase an extension

  • 3 month extension: WDC.EXTENSION.VALUE
  • 6 month extension: CERTIV.EXTENSION.VALUE
  • 9 month extension: WDC.EXTENSION.3xVALUE
  • 12 month extension: WDC.EXTENSION.4xVALUE

Students who opt to purchase an extension must submit a module for grading within the extension period in order to be eligible to remain on the course.

If the student does not purchase the course extension, the student may request a certificate stating modules completed to satisfaction. Access to the course and its materials will be declined after the course expiry date has passed. Access to learning materials not already undertaken will strictly be declined. The course cannot be deferred.

CUA40720 Certificate IV In Design Course Incompletion Within 15 Months Period

Students who do not complete the course within the 15 months allotted for the course will be entitled to purchase a 6—month extension for CERTIV.EXTENSION.VALUE. Students who opt to purchase a 6 month extension must submit a module for grading within the extension period in order to be eligible to remain on the course. If the student does not purchase the course extension, the student may request a certificate stating modules completed to satisfaction (Please note, Statement of Attainment cannot be issued until the full 12 modules are completed). Access to the course and its materials will be declined after the 15 months date has passed. Access to learning materials not already undertaken will strictly be declined. The course cannot be deferred.

Students who do not complete the course within the allotted enrolment period for their course will be entitled to purchase an extension

  • 3 month extension: WDC.EXTENSION.VALUE
  • 6 month extension: CERTIV.EXTENSION.VALUE
  • 9 month extension: WDC.EXTENSION.3xVALUE

Student Re-Enrolment

Re-enrolment is by application and is at the discretion of the Director. There are no payment plans for re-enrolment fees. These must be paid in full.

Re-Enrolling in the CUA40720 Certificate IV in Design

Full price of the CUA40720 Certificate IV in Design (CERTIV.1.PRICE.TOTAL) minus any previous course fees already paid (exclusive of extension payments).

Students who re-enrol in the Certificate IV in Design Course within 6 months of their course expiry date, will be required to purchase either a 12 month ($800) course extension irrespective of the Module they are up to. They will be able to recommence their studies upon successful purchase of their extension.

Students wishing to re-enrol 6 months after their course expiry date will be required to purchase a 12 month ($800) extension irrespective of the Module they are up to, plus a $1000 re-enrolment fee in order to re-commence their studies. So $1800 in total (plus any leftover course fees as stated above).

Re-Issuance Of Certificate

You may gain hard copies of your certificate and/or statement of attainment for FEES.RE_ISSUANCE.HARD_COPY for each obtained. Postage and handling within Australia will be charged at FEES.RE_ISSUANCE.POSTAGE.AUSTRALIA, and FEES.RE_ISSUANCE.POSTAGE.OTHER outside of Australia. PayPal, credit card or Australian cheque payments accepted only.
